Budget Consultations 2010-2011

Brief on Weight Issues, Chronic Diseases, and Public Finance

The Weight Coalition presented a policy brief to the Minister of Finance during the budget consultations 2010-2011. In this document, the following recommendations were made:

  1. Invest in prevention.
  2. Monitor food marketing practices and ensure compliance to the law prohibiting advertising aimed at children.
  3. Develop our cities and redesign freeway projects in order to encourage active and collective transportation. 
  4. Implement a tax on soft and energy drinks to finance prevention initiatives.
